This webinar focused on test organisation design and structural change with a view to assisting attendees identify the optimum test structure for their business.
At Sogeti, we are often asked what is the most effective and efficient structure for QA & Test to maximize the added value to the business and to ensure software gets delivered as expected. Our initial answer reiterates that so long as there is some logic to the structure and there are clear and aligned, roles, goals & metrics then the potential is there for success. However, there are many variables in organizations and businesses involved in the software delivery process or SPDLC (Software Procurement and Development Life Cycle), and there are optimum structures that deliver the highest available performance.
This webinar will considered the options of:
- A decentralized structure where Test responsibility is devolved to the development project manager together with the rest of the resources needed for a system development project
- Centralized testing, with resources allocated to carry out testing when the code is delivered from a development group.; and
- Hybrid structures and Test Centres of Excellence (TCoE)
We also examined the impact that Agile development has on organizations and structures.
The presenter introduced a simple model to aid with assessment and design of the QA & Test Function of organizations. With much discussion surrounding the outsourcing of software QA & testing, we will also consider the implications of working with a specialist test resource or service provider.
