Local touch – Global reach

An increasing number of companies that use SAP solutions understand the importance of a professional approach to testing. As the complexity and dependency on selected SAP solutions increases over time, the risks of business process interruption due to IT-related problems increase proportionately. Professional testing is the most effective way to limit such risks to an acceptable level and ensure reliable IT solutions.

Testing verifies whether the configuration of the total SAP system complies with the business requirements. Problems are detected and solved at the earliest possible stage.  A structured approach to testing is indispensable both during the implementation of new solutions and when adjusting existing solutions (e.g. for new releases or process changes).

As an SAP Service Partner and recognised global leader in testing we bring unrivalled expertise to ensure that your SAP solution is comprehensively and effectively tested throughout the full system lifecycle.  Our goals are to:

  • Reduce downtime to a minimum and keep employees productive—allowing them to easily access critical information that is current and reliable
  • Reduce costs by testing early—eliminating errors and ensuring software is released correctly
  • Reduce testing cycle time by focusing on the most critical business requirements/processes.

Our Approach
Our approach to all SAP testing engagements is based on the following principles:

  • Save on repair costs by means of earlier involvement
  • Risk-based testing based on failure risk (e.g. complexity of the solution) and impact (e.g. business process continuity)
  • Ensure that testing makes a positive contribution to the change process
  • Save costs and increase quality by re-using testware
  • Support the testing process through test automation
  • Quality cannot be ‘tested in’; it can be improved via QA
  • Professional SAP testing is necessary in the project and the maintenance phases (complete SAP lifecycle)
  • Ensure that the following knowledge is present in the test team:
  1. Test Management approach (TMap®)
  2. Implementation methodology ASAP/ Solution manager
  3. SAP (functional and technical)
  4. The client’s business processes and activities
  5. Test automation tools

Our approach to testing in SAP environments combines the best practices of testing using our industry standard TMap® methodology with SAP implementation based on the ASAP method.  Through Business Driven Test Management (BDTM) we translate business goals to testing goals, through which the right test coverage on the right areas is defined.

Our guide to the complete test process identifies the phases, activities and products of the test process. The toolbox provides a uniform way of working the various aspects, technique (how), infrastructure (where and with what) and organisation (whom). The adaptiveness of TMAP® ensures it can be used in new implementations and maintenance situations.  Based on our vision of SAP testing, we have combined these four aspects with the ASAP implementation method into a Sogeti SAP Test Methodology.

SAP Testing Toolbox

Within the framework of this methodology, a master test plan is used to execute the various test types – from unit testing through to acceptance testing.

The phases planning, control, preparation, specification, execution, completion and infrastructure apply to every test type.

SAP Testing Framwork

The master test plan and all of the test types are integrated with the various ASAP phases, with early involvement acting as an extremely important principle. The test team is involved from the blueprint phase, ensuring a good basis for testing. Also, the first steps towards setting up the test scenarios are taken at an earlier stage.  Its early involvement also enables the test team to detect deviations from the business blueprint that emerge in the course of the realisation phase; with quality-increasing consequences for the end result.  This means that, when the SAP system is handed over to the business, the system constitutes a better match with the expectations.

SAP lifecycle testing
The management and maintenance phase starts once SAP has been integrated successfully in your organisation.  In this phase, it is important that additional functionality, support packages, new releases, etc. are implemented safely and efficiently. Because of the integrated nature of the SAP environment, a relatively small change can result in unforeseen problems in unexpected areas. As a result, unchanged parts must also be tested via “regression testing”. Regression testing, because of it repeat and reuse nature is frequently suitable for automation.
