TMap® is the Sogeti methodology for structured testing focussed on early detection of defects in a cost effective manner while providing insight into software quality.
TMap® Next (Test Management approach methodology) has become a European standard as a structured test methodology.
Based on substantial user feedback and taking account new technologies and approaches to software development and testing TMap® has been completely revised and updated.
The update methodology is known as TMap Next (Test Management Approach).
TMap Next has four essential components:

The customer (whether internal or external to the organisation) manages the test process on rational and economic grounds: Business Driven Test Management (BDTM) (Costs, Risks, Time and Result) concept.

A Structured test process, from test execution through test management.

A tool set, i.e. technique descriptions and organisational and infrastructure support. The tool set contains organisation, infrastructure and techniques.

An adaptive method that is suitable for test situations in most environments (such as new development, maintenance, waterfall / iterative / agile development / RUP, customised or package software, outsourcing). |
The TMap Next methodology offers the tester and the test manager guidelines to deliver results for the customers. Using among others CMMi, V&V (Verification & Validation) and ISO 9126 concepts applied to the software testing area, TMap helps to define a software test strategy based on risks and on projects constraints such as project schedule, resources.
Because TMap Next is based on a business driven test management (BDTM) approach, the client can control the test process based on rational and economic considerations.

By translating business goals to test goals the right test coverage on the right area is achieved.
TMap Next gives a full description of the total test process. By splitting the test process in phases, activities and deliverables it becomes transparent and manageable. The approach is therefore suitable for all kinds of tests during development and maintenance. The coordination between the different test levels makes sure that tests are executed at the right moment. Also the transparency in tasks and responsibilities between supplier and customer, between tester and test manager and between test levels plays a crucial role.
TMap Next contains a complete ‘tool set’. This tool set comprises techniques (how to test), advice regarding infrastructure (where and with what is being tested) and organization (who is testing). This allows a uniform execution of the various test activities across a project or organisation.
TMap Next is an adaptive method that is flexible and therefore suitable for all test situations in most environments, such as new development, maintenance, waterfall / iterative / agile development, tailor-made or package software costs.
