At Sogeti Ireland, it’s the people who make the magic happen and Desmond Kenny, one of our fantastic Client Managers is a perfect example. From building relationships to solving challenges, Desmond is all about making things work for our clients and team. Let’s dive into his story.

Tell us about yourself

I’m from Galway on Ireland’s beautiful West Coast, where I grew up surrounded by books in my family’s bookshop. That’s probably where my love of reading and creativity started. I went to college in Galway too, studying Information Technology, arts and later completing a Master’s in Writing. 

Outside of work, I am a bit of a geek at heart. I love books, role-playing games, tabletop war games like Warhammer, and painting miniatures. When I am not gaming or reading, I am relaxing with my wife, watching dark and challenging TV series, or playing games with my kids. Oh, and a fun fact I have even had a few flying lessons! 

Can you tell us a little bit about your career journey so far?

I joined the workforce in 2006, giving me over 18 years of professional experience. Before joining Sogeti 4.5 years ago, I worked with companies like PayPal, eBay, and Games Workshop, primarily focusing on building marketing strategies and managing accounts. Joining Sogeti was my first experience with a service-focused company and it has been an exciting and rewarding challenge. 

At Sogeti, I manage public sector, retail, manufacturing, and BFSI accounts for various clients. My role is to serve as their main point of contact not just for sales, but for anything they need. My focus is on ensuring everything runs seamlessly delivering solutions, addressing challenges and consistently driving excellence. 

What you are passionate about

For me, everything comes down to relationships and problem-solving. I believe being approachable, trustworthy and reliable goes a long way whether I’m working with clients or collaborating with my team. I enjoy helping clients solve problems and find solutions that add real value to their business. 

One thing I am particularly proud of is finding the right people for the right roles. For example, in one of my public sector accounts, I have worked on sourcing talented project managers and data engineers who not only possess excellent technical skills but also excel at collaborating with senior stakeholders. 

What is the broad scope of work at Sogeti

One of the biggest things I have realized since joining Sogeti is the sheer variety of work we do. From AI to data projects and across industries like manufacturing, utilities, and public sector, the innovation here is incredible. I have learned so much about how we help clients adapt to challenges and embrace new technologies. 

What drives you in your role

Being a client manager lets me combine everything I love; building trust, solving challenges and creating meaningful connections. At Sogeti, I get to work with great people and help clients overcome challenges while delivering value that matters. 

Some fun facts

  • If I could switch jobs for a day: I would choose Cesar. He is an amazing mentor, a real cheerleader for his team and always willing to help. I admire how invested he is in the people around him.
  • Secret talent: I have flown a plane during a few flying lessons, such an amazing experience! 
  • If I had a superpower: I would pause time! Sometimes, I just need a moment to catch up without interruptions. 
  • Dream travel spots: Osaka, Japan and Copenhagen, Denmark. 
  • Hobbies: Reading, painting miniatures and playing games (both role-playing and tabletop)
