Manish is a Software Developer at Sogeti, currently working with one of the largest Banks in Ireland. Here’s a look at his experiences – from academic background to his role at Sogeti and everything he has learned along the way.

What made you choose Computer Science?

I’m originally from India and moved to Dublin to pursue my master’s in Computer Science at University College Dublin. I focused on cloud computing, data analysis, and distributed systems, which gave me a strong technical foundation. I have always been passionate about front end development, and I love building smooth, user friendly web and mobile applications.

How was your experience with your first client project at Sogeti?

At Sogeti, I joined as a Software Developer and had the opportunity to work with one of the largest Banks in Ireland. My role primarily focuses on UI development and I am also exploring API development to expand my technical skillset.

The initial learning phase of the graduate program was both exciting and challenging. I went through structured training, online courses, mentorship from industry experts and certification programs. This mix of learning opportunities helped me build a strong foundation for my role.

Starting my first client project was a thrilling experience. I worked closely with the offshore team, reviewed project requirements and prepared for the next phases. Every day has been a learning experience, helping me develop both technical and professional skills.

How does academic knowledge differ from real world applications?

One of the biggest differences I have noticed between university and real-world work is that while academics focus on theory and concepts, professional work is all about solving real problems under deadlines, collaborating with teams and adapting to unexpected challenges. It’s been a shift, but an exciting one that has helped me grow.

What mentorship support do you receive at Sogeti?

One of the most valuable aspects of working at Sogeti has been the mentorship and support from experienced colleagues. My mentor, line manager and teammates have been incredibly helpful in guiding me through technical challenges and career decisions.

Sogeti also encourages professional development through certifications and I have successfully completed:

  • ISTQB Certification – Strengthened my understanding of software testing principles.
  • DP-900 Certification – Helped me build a strong foundation in cloud computing and data services.

These certifications have boosted my confidence and helped me apply my knowledge to real-world tasks.

What have you learned at Sogeti

Since joining Sogeti, I have gained valuable experience in:

  • Agile testing and development
  • Data governance
  • New tools and technologies like Angular and MuleSoft

Some of these have been challenging, but also rewarding, as they have helped me to grow technically and contribute more effectively to my projects.

How did you find the work culture at Sogeti

The workplace culture at Sogeti is fantastic. Everyone is so approachable and helpful, making it easy to get support at every stage and with every question. The people are close-knit and always willing to lend a hand. Plus, the accessibility to senior leadership, including the CEO, is amazing and really fosters a sense of openness and transparency.

My go-to person at Sogeti is Fiona, she has been incredibly supportive in helping us navigate the graduate program and is always ready to assist when needed.

Some rapid fire questions…

Your favourite sport? – I am passionate about football. I love playing, analyzing matches, and following the sport closely.

If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would you go and why? – My dream destination would be Switzerland – the breathtaking landscapes, peaceful vibe, and strong football culture make it the perfect place to visit.

If you could switch roles with anyone for a day, who would it be and why? – I’d choose Declan, the program manager, to gain insights into project management, strategic decision-making, and leadership.

If you could have any superpower at work, what would it be? – The ability to instantly learn and master any skill. It would make it so much easier to pick up new technologies, solve tricky problems and stay on top of everything in this fast-paced industry. Plus, it would be a great way to help the team tackle challenges and get things done more efficiently.

Where do you see your future at Sogeti?

I see myself continuing to grow at Sogeti, taking on new challenges, exploring different technologies, and eventually stepping into a more senior technical or leadership role. Being part of the Capgemini Group also means I have opportunities to work with diverse clients and cutting-edge technologies, which makes the journey even more exciting.

My journey from graduate to software developer at Sogeti has been incredibly rewarding. The mix of mentorship, learning opportunities, hands-on experience, and a supportive workplace culture has helped me grow both professionally and personally.

For anyone looking to kickstart their career in tech, my advice would be: stay curious, embrace challenges and take every opportunity to learn and grow.
