Data Warehouse and visualisation means accurate and valuable reporting for HSE

Background 

HSE Procurement works with vast amount of suppliers and vendors, for all aspects of purchasing.  From stationary to syringes and x-ray machines to hospital dinners, HSE purchasing is a complicated and large undertaking.  

As with any large organisation, the HSE have multiple systems which store this information across many regions and facility types.  Because of this, the HSE are undertaking a large project to consolidate as much logistics  activity, as possible, into a central National Distribution Centre (NDC).

Solution 

With the physical NDC development, the HSE required a Data Warehouse to hold purchasing information from all parts of the HSE.  To achieve this, Sogeti and the HSE designed a Data Warehouse to hold this information.  Sogeti built Extract, Transform and Load (ETL) processes on Microsoft SQL Server and SQL Server Integration Services, to collect and process data from multiple data sources, like SAP.  The ETL processes transform the data from these multiple sources, into a more homogenous format.  Views were created to extract and process the data in the Warehouse, so that the HSE QlikView visualisation team can display the data in an easily readable format.

Sogeti also designed and built a bespoke .Net application to support the Data Warehouse and HSE Procurement, to capture Framework and Contract information.

Benefits 

Sogeti consultants built a robust ETL, Data Warehouse and .Net solution that allows the HSE to report accurately on their procurement data on a national level but which also allows them to view individual purchases at a granular level. The system is designed with robust error handling to allow it to run with minimal support or intervention required after implementation.  HSE procurement can analyse purchasing data, find savings opportunities, and then Project Manage the creation and running of frameworks and contracts, in a .Net application, to realise those savings.
